A Retiree’s Day Off
<p>Right now, I’m sitting up in bed, my laptop on my lap, my cat curled up at my feet. I usually make the bed right away, but today, at almost 10:30 in the morning, the blankets are bunched up, and the pillows are strewn around me. I have given myself a day to relax and do whatever I want.</p>
<p>A day off from retirement may sound batty. When I was younger, I used to wonder why the retirees I knew were always so busy: working out, traveling, babysitting grandchildren, taking up new hobbies, joining groups. I imagined retirement as the unending freedom to stop doing and just be.</p>
