You Can Help Save a Massive Dog Research Project

One of the worst parts of science is that it takes a long time. That’s especially true for studies in aging and longevity; any kind of “magic anti-aging pill” will need decades of rigorous testing.

Sometimes, politics threatens to derail these projects entirely.

One example is the Dog Aging Project (DAP), a massive study of nearly 50,000 dogs, tracking how these animals live, eat — and get sick and die. It’s been running since 2018, collecting invaluable data.

But it costs money to collect this information and keep it curated. That money has come from the National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This money was part of a 5-year grant, which expires in June 2024.
