Representation Matters

I’ve lived in the US for almost 17 years and as a first generation immigrant, I am still discovering little things that help me put together the puzzle of what the American dream is really about.

I think, deep down, unwelcome as we might feel, we stick around for the license to dream and the opportunity to find spaces where we all belong.

This is becoming more obvious to me as an anthropologist because being a mom opened a window into the world American kids grow up in. As I raise my own children in it, I am witnessing how full of promises this reality is compared to the one I grew up in.
