The Remarkable History of The Art Basel Hong Kong
<p>Art Basel Hong Kong is a contemporary art fair that showcases modern and contemporary artworks from around the world. It was first held in May 2013 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and has since become one of the most important art events in Asia.</p>
<h1>The Founders</h1>
<p>Art Basel was founded by three Swiss gallerists — Trudi Bruckner, Balz Hilt and Ernst Beyeler in 1970.</p>
<p>Ernst Beyeler (1921–2010) was a well-known Swiss art dealer and gallerist who founded Galerie Beyeler in Basel in 1945. Over the years, he built a reputation for himself as one of the most successful and influential art dealers in Europe, known for his extensive knowledge of art history and his ability to identify and promote emerging artists. Beyeler was also known for his close relationships with artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Alexander Calder, and his gallery played an important role in promoting their work.</p>
<p>Balz Hilt (1933–2017) was a Swiss art dealer and gallerist who co-founded Galerie Hilt in Basel in 1968. Hilt’s gallery was known for promoting young artists and for showcasing contemporary art from around the world.</p>
