Are Stem Cells the Future of Regenerative Medicine? TBD

The two defining qualities of a stem cell are the ability to self-renew through asymmetric cell division and the potential to develop into many different types of cells.

Imagine stem cells as the Swiss Army knife of the body–a versatile and multifunctional tool capable of transforming into various specialized cells to tackle different tasks. At their core, stem cells are unspecialized cells that self-renew and differentiate into a wide array of cell types (muscle cell, nerve cell, blood cell and more!).

Depending on the environment or situation, just like a Swiss Army knife can unfold to reveal different tools for specific purposes, stem cells can “unfold” or differentiate into specialized cells.
