Diversion from Incarceration Effect on Recidivism in Texas

<p>Texas, despite heavily relying on incarceration as the punishment for crimes rather than rehabilitation programs, has one of the lowest recidivism rates in the US at 20.3% (Texas Department of Criminal Justice). Partially this is because the recidivism rate does not include those who are sentenced to probation or are released on parole which still constitutes them being under state supervision. Diversion programs have been shown to have the most significant impact on the rearrest rates of juveniles.
