We Old People Need Different Reality Shows

I am currently binge-watching season nine of the TV show, Alone. In it, ten hardened survivalists are dropped into the wilds of Labrador, Canada, where they film themselves as they slowly starve to death. The winner is the last one standing. I can’t get enough of it. Alone is not the only survival show I like. I have watched Survivorman, Man vs. Wild, Dual Survival, Naked and Afraid, and, to my great shame, every season of Survivor.

I have no idea why I like or watch these shows. I don’t know bushcraft. I don’t hunt, I don’t fish, and I won’t even go on a walk if I hear it referred to as a hike. My idea of camping is a hotel with mediocre room service. Yet, if there is something on TV involving young muscular people battling nature and each other, I sink into my La-Z-Boy mesmerized.
