Four Ways We React To Racialized Trauma
<p>Ishould start by pointing out that when I say “we,” I do mean people of color in general. However, that doesn’t mean white people can’t gain anything from this article. If you are interested in learning more about racism, it’s important for you to learn that racism is traumatic.</p>
<p>I should also say I’m not a therapist. I’m just a 12-year therapy client sharing what I’ve learned with those who might benefit from it. And I have a lot of personal experience with racialized trauma. I have <a href="https://cptsdfoundation.org/2019/09/03/what-is-complex-post-traumatic-stress-disorder-cptsd/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">CPTSD</a> due to the racism I experienced growing up in an all-white, racist environment. There was no respite. I couldn’t escape from it. No one told me the things happening to me were wrong. I had no safe space.</p>
