Setting up your Apple Silicon Mac for Python development with Visual Studio Code

In this post, I will show you how you can set up a new Apple Silicon Mac for Python development with Visual Studio Code.

I will explain how you set up everything you need to start working efficiently with Python code in Visual Studio Code. This includes the basics, such as installing Python and Visual Studio Code, but I will also show you some changes you can make to Visual Studio Code settings to ease development and show you how to make sure you are set up to push code to GitHub.

In addition to the setup specifically for development, I will highlight some settings and shortcuts in macOS that are perhaps less known but which can make the OS a little easier to work with. Let’s get started!

Note: This post was written on macOS Monterey. If you’re using macOS Ventura, the System Preferences app is now called Settings. It looks somewhat different, but you should still be able to find the various options. If not, let me know in the comments!

Learn More
