A History We All Share — Puppets

<p>It is not clear exactly when the first puppets appeared, but it is well over 4,000 years ago. A terracotta doll with moveable head was found in the Indus Valley dating from 2,500 BCE, while &ldquo;walking statues&rdquo; were used for religious purposes in 2,000 BCE Egypt and have been found in tombs.</p> <p>From these ancient beginnings, puppetry has become ubiquitous, taking on many forms &mdash; from gloves to masks, strings, and rods &mdash; and becoming one of the few traditions shared across the world.</p> <p>Much of this is brilliantly on display at the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.museudamarioneta.pt/pt/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Museu da Marioneta,</a>&nbsp;tucked somewhat away from the tourist-beaten path in Portugal&rsquo;s capital, Lisbon.</p> <p><a href="https://medium.com/exploring-history/a-history-we-all-share-puppets-c03f9f7f5413"><strong>Read More</strong></a></p>
