<p>The First Amendment to the United States Constitution is not often recognized as one of the most brilliant and cherished pillars of democracy. It is one of the most important constitutional protections for Americans. The amendment was added to the bill of rights in 1791 as part of a package that also included nine other amendments. It guarantees citizens’ essential rights and freedoms that are: freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition. Academically speaking, the brilliance of the First Amendment becomes even more evident when seen in the light of Liberalism. Where it acts as a powerful, foundational tool for advancing society’s values and the open development of a country.</p>
