Postcard from Barcelona

“How are you feeling?” “Counting down, right?” “You’ll enjoy ooo” “Lucky you!” “Barcelona is very beautiful; you will enjoy your stay”

These were some of the reactions I got in the weeks and days leading up to my departure from the only country I’ve truly known (I think). This isn’t my first time out of Nigeria, but it’s my first time out of the African continent. Truthfully, all I felt was indifference. As the days grew closer, the feeling of indifference grew bigger.

I was excited about the prospects of traveling to Barcelona and exploring Europe, but I wasn’t quite ready to leave my family. My heart ached at this thought so often that it clouded any excitement I wanted to feel. There were days that the thought of it brought tears to my eyes.

Visit Now
