Mother Nature is an Artist | Poem & Adventure

Spontaneity and synchronicity were the themes of the day. Being the weekend I knew I had to get out on the trails and hike the rust out of my weekday work joints. But… where? I took out the big map of the area and looked at it on the drive over. So many mysteries on this map, places of enigmas that we haven’t visited yet. The west part of town called us, a section filled with squiggles on the map and mystical mesas like monuments watching over us little people. Parking is always hard in this area, but we were lucky to find a space.

Our afternoon started on a trail named after alcohol derived from agave, until I noticed through the trees crowds of people gathered up on a mesa next to a busy trail burrowing deep in a canyon. My partner reminded me of what it was, the last of four vortex points we haven’t visited yet. Could it be? Finishing a great mythical quest? Curiosity took the front seat and we meandered back down the trail and up onto the vista that had a crowd just thirty minutes before. “The desert is so fascinating. Just a bit ago we stood over there looking over here, and just a short walk away we are here looking over there,” my partner mentioned as we approached the vortex point.
