Beacon Pines Review

Heya folks, Shaun here, and I’m back with my latest review! In this one, I’m covering an indie storybook adventure game called Beacon Pines by Hiding Spot and Fellow Traveller. A big thank you goes out to the developer and publisher for the chance to cover the game, it’s much appreciated, thank you!

Beacon Pines is an adventure game that’s set up like a children’s storybook. It puts you in the role of Luka VanHorn, a 12-year-old who gets caught up in a mystery surrounding the small town of Beacon Pines.

I’ll admit that I’m a big fan of stories revolving around mysteries taking place in small towns so I latched onto this game pretty quickly. The story largely follows Luka, his best friend Rolo and a new girl in town named Beck in their ongoing search for answers in their town.

The game also utilizes Choose Your Own Adventure elements where a single word can change the entire story of the game. Utilizing charms, there are certain points in the story where you can choose a charm, or word, to utilize and each word creates branches in the story that lead to various endings. Only one path leads to the true ending of the game, though, you’ll need to unlock every word before you’ll be able to reach the end.
