How Pharmaceutical Pollution Harms Aquatic Organisms
<p>When thinking about environmental pollution, the first type of pollution that may come to mind is plastic pollution. Or maybe air pollution. A type of pollution many don’t think of is pharmaceutical pollution. Pharmaceuticals are chemical substances used for medicinal purposes such as illness prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. These substances include medications, hormones, antibiotics, and personal care products.</p>
<p>When these chemical substances end up in the environment, they cause pharmaceutical pollution. They can end up in the environment in different ways, including being excreted through urine and feces, by pharmaceutical waste being left untreated, and by wastewater from the pharmaceutical industry being incorrectly disposed of.</p>
