The Gender Pay Gap Doesn’t Exist
<p>If you read <a href="https://medium.com/an-injustice/the-gender-pay-gap-doesnt-exist-a88ac82afb62" rel="noopener">the first part of this article</a>, then you would have come out with this message; the idea that women are paid less than men for doing the same work is wrong. Although it is fashionable to scream <em>equal pay for equal work</em>, women, even when they have the same levels of education as their male counterparts, usually take up work that affords more flexibility — which tends to pay less. It may be the case that if we can put a dollar value on flexibility, that could offset some of the actual lost salary dollars for women. If there is a single take-home lesson, it would be that the <a href="https://newsroom.iza.org/en/archive/research/the-gender-pay-gap-discrimination-or-structural-differences/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">scientific literature</a> is clear that workplace gender discrimination isn’t the reason for the difference in pay between men and women. But even in the absence of workplace gender discrimination, the playing fields for men and women aren’t necessarily equal.</p>
