Guess what? A 90-year-old from Walgrave, Northamptonshire just completed his 500th Parkrun!
Can you believe it? Bob Emmerson has been participating in these weekly timed 5km runs for the last 11 years, ever since he heard about it on BBC Radio Northampton.
The event takes place at Northampton Racecourse every Saturday morning, and Mr. Emmerson is like a local celebrity there.
It’s pretty impressive considering he’s had both of his hips resurfaced! Almost all of his Park runs have been at the Northampton event, but he’s also done a few in other places like Brixworth Country Park, Daventry, and Kettering in Northamptonshire, as well as Darlington in County Durham, Market Harborough in Leicestershire, and even Bushy Park in London.
Mr. Emmerson used to be a hardcore runner back in the day, completing ultra-distance and 24-hour races. His best time for a marathon was an incredible two hours, forty minutes, and twenty-five seconds. Talk about
a warm welcome. Just so you know, Parkrun is this awesome free event that happens every Saturday at 9:00 in lots of different spots across the UK. And get this, it’s all organized and run by volunteers, so everyone can join in regardless of their fitness level.
