Falling Flat | Paper Mario: Color Splash Is The Worst Game In The Series And Here’s Why

If you clicked on this editorial, I assume you’ve at least heard of Paper Mario. You know, the franchise people claim “lost its way” despite only having its so-called “formula” for two games? The franchise that people will randomly regain faith in as long as the graphics are pretty and the dialogue is vaguely humorous in the blandest way possible?

So it’s been over three years since Paper Mario: The Origami King released, and with it, the series has hit a milestone of more games being “outside the box” than “inside the box”, making the claims of the series “losing its way” even weirder in hindsight.

And boy, do I have a lot to say about them. I started caring about the series back when I received Super Paper Mario as a Christmas present in 2007, but I didn’t finish the game until three or four years later when I could, you know, understand what was going on with the story and such.

I’ll go more into that some other time, but Super Paper Mario was a really important game to me when I was growing up, and helped shape me into the person I am today.
