Berlin Opera Academy: An Honest Review
<p>On the first day of BOA 2022, during the general assembly, the head of the program gave us a <strong>rousing speech</strong>. It really was very good — you could see people eyes lighting up, and I felt my own face glow with anticipation.</p>
<p>However, he said one thing that made me a little suspicious. ‘<strong>Be positive</strong>,’ he told us. ‘Have a positive mindset. Don’t grumble or complain. Make something out of it.’</p>
<p>Of course, I completely agree with the benefits of a positive mindset. <strong>There’s a lot of whining and complaining in any world, and we’d all be better off without it.</strong> But at the same time, this sounded defensive to me — as if he knew there were things that weren’t right, and hoped to not get too much pushback.</p>
