The Omnivore

There are times when I go in search of innovation in the kitchen (using new ingredients, for instance, or trying variations of traditional recipes), and others when simplicity is the better option. Especially when it’s pouring down outside and the boat sways gently. By the way, the boat owner and dweller is my partner. I still live on terra firma. I do stay over and cook whenever I can. The recipe below is the result of a day when we both craved the warmth of a well-known soup but with a few tweaks.

I’ve made leek and sweet potato soup before. As a Cuban, I’m not as keen on potatoes (the usual ingredient) as I am on sweet potatoes. I’m aware of my adopted land’s fascination with potatoes and the many varieties one finds in supermarkets. Unfortunately, that’s the one area where the UK and I go our separate ways. Give me rice over jacket potato any time.

Website
