Trans People Can’t Run For Office In Ohio?
<p>Apparently she ‘only circulated petitions with her legal name, instead of her former name.’ And that even <a href="https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/politics/ohio-politics/ohio-transgender-candidate-disqualified-for-only-including-legal-name-not-former-name-on-petitions" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">puts other LGBTQ+ candidates in flux according to the article</a>. Its even worse because she got the necessary signatures to run.</p>
<p>The reason this happened is because of a law from the 1990s that requires all candidates to list any former names from the last 5 years.</p>
<p>As the candidate herself explained, this is not possible for trans people, they’re asking us to publicly out ourselves to run for office.</p>
