Language challenges while raising my kid to be multi lingual

My parents thought that we need to learn English and gave a lot of importance to it and I do not blame them. My good understanding and learning of English provided me with the opportunities that I got and where I am today. However, once I had my child, I started to have this desire for her to speak in Telugu so that she can communicate with her grandparents and knows where she comes from.

Growing up, my parents and I got so focussed on English and Hindi(which is the national language) that I just learned Telugu for two years. This is not to blame them but the colonial mindset which we inherited, where anything English is considered intellectual vs anything in any other language like Hindi, Telugu or any other Indian language was considered sub-standard.

Visit Now
