The Moving Vans Come to AM

XEARZ-AM was awarded by Cofetel on November 30, 2011, on a seven-year-old application by Arnoldo Rodríguez Zermeño, known for his extensive social radio portfolio. It was the first expanded-band station (1610–1700 kHz) in the capital and began broadcasting on April 26, 2012.

Mexico City thus came to have three expanded-band stations in and near it. By the time XEARZ had been awarded, areas surrounding the capital in the State of Mexico were already enjoying expanded-band AM. The first on air was the country’s first as well, XEUACH Radio Chapingo on 1610 as early as 1994 (but permitted in 1997). It was followed by XEANAH on 1670 from the Universidad Anáhuac in Huixquilucan on January 20, 2011.
