Movie Review: Spotlight

I’m a sucker for journalism in movies. Hollywood loves to portray the profession in the most glamorous way possible. Heated conversations, tense investigations, moral dilemmas, tears, anger, deceit, et cetera!

As someone who went to school and studied journalism, there are a lot of merits to the profession. Especially when done with the vigor and obsession that the Boston Globe’s “Spotlight” team took their signature story on in the early 2000s.

Such is life that profit and institutionalism stand in the way of morality. That message is captured and reverberated throughout Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer’s script. For their efforts, the pair won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Spotlight also won Best Picture. McCarthy directed the film.
