Anti-Racism in (white) Mountain Towns

<p>Over the past few weeks, I have been searching for the article I, since unable to find, am now sitting down to write. It is an article for others who, like me, live in small towns most come to for vacations. It is an effort at building a bridge between those of us who live in mountain towns and the revolution happening (in cities). I am writing with both humility and urgency. Humility because, as a White woman, I know the limitations to my voice in times such as these and urgency because, well, people are&nbsp;<a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/06/fighting-the-machine/612649/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">dying</a>, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/06/books/review/american-poison-racial-hostility-eduardo-porter.html" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">this is serious</a>. I will leave the summation of the moment in history to the historians, journalists, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rachelcargle.com/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">melanated</a>&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/shaunking?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">voices</a>&nbsp;who are doing an exemplary job keeping us informed, ensuring we remain woke, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/30/media/protests-journalists-arrested-assaulted/index.html" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">risking their lives</a>&nbsp;and wellbeing for our education. All that to say, it&rsquo;s hard to be a living, breathing soul in this nation and not have a sense of the upheaval sweeping the nation. 2020 has been a pretty miserable year, for most Americans,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/05/30/865413079/what-do-coronavirus-racial-disparities-look-like-state-by-state" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">and we know that for minority groups, it has been even worse</a>. People are fed up and depleted and dying. And once again, we are seeing a massive surge in support and activism. News channels and papers have shifted gears from covering corona virus 24/7 to splitting the focus between the pandemic and the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/04/revolution-only-getting-started/609463/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">revolution</a>.</p> <p><a href="https://medium.com/age-of-awareness/anti-racism-in-white-mountain-towns-6be97e3f14"><strong>Read More</strong></a></p>
