More War Crimes (Art. 51, GC4) — Russian Draft in Occupied Territory

In addition to the rumors of another round of the draft in Russia, which has, in reality, been continuous since the start of the escalation on 24 February 2022, Russia is apparently preparing or attempting to draft Ukrainian citizens from the Crimea and Kherson regions of Ukraine into its army. This is in an attempt to avoid drafting more Russian citizens, as Russia has run out of eligible men to force into service who are not already performing necessary work within Russia itself.

Russian men who work in the two main industrial sectors of the Russian economy — fossil fuels and the military-industrial complex — can be taken into the Army on only a very limited basis. These trained technicians in the oil and gas sectors are needed to keep the oil flowing to China, India, Turkey, and other corrupted nations that continue to suckle on the teat of Russian imperialism. The military-industrial complex is already struggling to meet the demands of the army, as evidenced by Russia’s desperation for North Korean ammunition and military vehicles. Perhaps the oil and gas industries have some extra labor available as a result of Russia’s refineries not operating at anywhere near peak volume.
