The Experiences of Middle Eastern/North African and Muslim Residents in Swampscott After Oct. 7
<p>In the latest war of this conflict, the paramilitary wings of Hamas launched a terrorist attack on October 7, 2023 in which they murdered, mutilated, raped, and kidnapped innocent civilians in Israel including those at a music festival. The death toll was over 1,000 people and has been labeled as one of the bloodiest days since the Holocaust for Jews. Since then, Israel declared war on Hamas and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have launched sustained and some have claimed indiscriminate attacks that amount to war crimes from within Gaza that have left most of the 2.3 million residents homeless and with little food, water, or shelter. As of publishing this essay, over 21,000 Palestinians have died along with a number of journalists trying to cover the situation. In addition the IDF has also increased its presence at the borders of Syria, Lebanon, and within the West Bank.</p>
