Mental Models for thinking about FreightTech
<p>Given there are so many different players and strategies in the logistics tech landscape, it’s helpful to start with a framework. Activant Capital shared <a href="https://activantcapital.com/research/TMS/?utm_content=257292900&utm_medium=social&utm_source=linkedin&hss_channel=lcp-18174561" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">their mental model</a> in July 2023 and although the TMS landscape is not well articulated in general, it is one of the better summaries.</p>
<p>The framework I use (shown below) is slightly simpler. Vertical functions create a point solution in the order lifecycle, while horizontal capabilities cut across the vertical. Each interaction (represented by a dot) can come in many forms, although those aren’t represented in the visual.</p>
