<p>Hope, a hardworking single mother world, was rocked in the spring of 2023. She had not lived in her newly renovated townhouse in East New Orleans for two days when her young son was shot with a bebe gun multiple times by another boy the same age.</p>
<p>The child shooter then turned the bebe gun on Hope.</p>
<p>The relationship between guns and African Americans in the US is complicated, reflecting their historical experiences and struggles.</p>
<p>Enslaved individuals were often forbidden from owning or using firearms, but some still managed to acquire and use guns as a way to resist and defend themselves against slavery’s harsh conditions.</p>
