Sorry, But Australia Isn’t Meant To Be On Fire
<p>I stood motionless at my hotel room window, gazing out at the Australian landscape. A thick <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/aug/12/nsw-summer-bushfires-2023-firefighters-warning-risks-weather" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">plume of smoke</a> rose from nearby trees and shrouded the landscape in a hazy veil.</p>
<p>At first, I thought the smoke came from a barbecue. Tourists have always enjoyed putting <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrimp_on_the_barbie" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">shrimp on the barbie</a> during <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/aug/12/nsw-summer-bushfires-2023-firefighters-warning-risks-weather" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Australia’s</a> hot weather. But, as time passed, the smoke thickened, and flames burst into the sky from the treetops.</p>
<p>That would’ve been a “<a href="https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-20/government-buybacks-for-properties-extreme-bushfire-danger-zones/11851884" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">once in a lifetime event</a>” just a few years ago. However, as a result of <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/aug/12/nsw-summer-bushfires-2023-firefighters-warning-risks-weather" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">climate change</a>, deadly <a href="https://www.unep.org/news-and-stories/press-release/deadly-wildfires-noise-pollution-and-disruptive-timing-life-cycles" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">wildfires</a> have become a normal part of life in Australia.</p>
