Mean or median? Choose based on the decision, not the distribution

<p>When I interview data science applicants, one of my favorite questions is, &ldquo;<em>When is it better to use the mean instead of a median?</em>&rdquo;</p> <p>Not only does this question help me assess a candidate&rsquo;s statistical foundation, but it also gives me a glimpse into how they approach problems.
