Myth: Having a Master’s Degree is VERY Important to Success in Your Job

With only a bachelor’s degree in Biopharmaceutical Science, I got a permanent full-time job in a very well-renowned pharmaceutical company; not because of my multiple master’s — I don’t even have a graduate degree — but it’s because of the four internships that I did DURING my bachelor’s. In my second year of my bachelor’s, I decided that I wanted to do an internship during the summer. I only had two experiences: I had worked as a pharmacy technician for two years, and I had been a touristic guide for two years, but that was it! Nothing fancy, no connections in the pharma world; just a girl who had worked normal minimum wage jobs. Then I got my first internship by emailing the director of the department directly, telling her that I was motivated and wanted to intern in her department, and surprisingly, she accepted! That’s how I got my first internship. Day after day, I knew what I wanted to do: I liked working in Regulatory Affairs, so all I had to do was to gain more experience, more internships, and so I did three more during the third year of my bachelor’s degree; two internships in regulatory affairs and one internship in quality assurance. So when I graduated, three years later, I already had more than 12 months of experience from just interning, and I got my dream job as soon as I graduated.
