Because She Is Everything

Who adores the mountains, the massive earth?
The very rocks lurch toward her over endless eons
offering their bulk as their tribute, moving
as the water ebbs and flows,
frozen deep, the rain.
She loves every rock, every pebble, every clod.

Who dwells in all the forests
living by a clock of seasons
as trees hold themselves upright, straining
then fall to earth
rotting and returning, growing and dying
leafing, branching —
Who loves the forest most?
