4 things I learned from reading Mary Douglas

Dame Mary Tew Douglas (March 25, 1921 — May 16, 2007) was a British anthropologist, known for her writings on human culture, symbolism and comparative religion. She was considered a follower of Émile Durkheim’s approach to social theory.

I was always fascinated by how anthropologists challenge our common understandings of how things in our society came to be regarded as “normal”.

Mary Douglas is exceptional in this regard???— her wide scope of analysis combined with her ability to simplify complex topics???— makes her an accessible and deep thinker.
