Dangerous Marine Species in the Maldives

When we think of the Maldives, we think of relaxing on white, sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, and, of course, snorkeling in the clear blue waters with colorful fish, sharks, stingrays and maybe even dolphins. But it’s important to be aware of some less-friendly creatures who look beneath the surface, so you can be safe while diving.

Stingrays

Stingrays are popular to snorkel with because of their docile nature. Not just that, but they are quite intelligent, and may follow you through the water. It’s crucial to know that they do sting if provoked, and could be resting under a layer of sand. It is best recommended to shuffle along the seafloor, rather than big steps. Don’t do anything that could put the animal in a position of distress or danger.
