Liberty

As the wars of the world continue, seemingly unabated, one can’t help to ponder one’s own safety and freedom. Being a half-a-world away from the violence, but instantly knowledgeable of it, is a strange state. We don’t feel it, except in our hearts.

And it’s hard to know how to respond — money to a charity or two is easy, almost too easy. Protesting is dangerous, it seems, since there are avid people on both sides of the question.

It does remind one of how sweet one’s own liberty is. I’ve never really worried about losing my liberty, my home, or my freedoms, except perhaps by natural disaster, and even then it seemed remote.
