Bangkok: The Do’s and Don’ts for the LGBTQ+ Traveler

Ah, Bangkok. It’s like the spunky cousin of San Francisco, but with more pad thai and fewer hills. For a lot of us in the LGBTQ+ community, this city has been on the bucket list for its vibrant nightlife, rich culture, and its general “let’s embrace everyone” kind of vibe. But, before you get lost in the neon-lit alleys of Silom or get into a philosophical debate with a tuk-tuk driver over the last season of that one Netflix show everyone’s raving about, there are a few things you might wanna jot down. Especially if, like me, you’ve got that rainbow flag waving high.

Do: Embrace the Nightlife… But Know Where to Go

Bangkok is basically the love child of party and culture, and boy, does it show. But honey, you’ve got to be selective. Not all places are as open and welcoming as that super-gay bar in Castro Street. If you’re on the hunt for queer spaces, head over to Silom Soi 4. It’s like the Pride parade decided to settle down and start a family there. And when you’ve got enough of those cocktails swirling inside you, and you feel like dancing, then Silom Soi 2 is your next pit stop. It’s got the clubs, the lights, the music — everything that says “I’m here and I’m queer!”
