Let’s Talk About a Potential Biden Alternative.

It might just be me, but it doesn’t feel as though Joe Biden is taking his re-election campaign even remotely seriously. He’s done virtually no campaigning, and his approval rating or more specifically the lack thereof makes the entire strategy of just sitting back and letting it play out absolutely bizarre. Of course, it’s most likely just wishful thinking on my part but I can’t help wondering whether Biden and his family in particular might be having second thoughts about going through another long, grueling election season. This time, with the duties and responsibilities of the Presidency on top of it.

But, maybe it’s worth discussing a potential and realistic alternative.

What about Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer?

I don’t think there’s a single democrat in the country who’s actually even remotely on the left who wouldn’t prefer her over Joe Biden for a wide variety of reasons. She’s just a far more appealing politician overall who has done some legitimately good things in a very purple state, and might actually be able to bridge the gap between the left and the more conservative, traditional liberals. The fact that she’s almost 30 years younger than Biden doesn’t hurt either, and she has a record that she can run on.

As unrealistic as it might be, it’s fun to envision a Gretchen Whitmer and AOC ticket, and I can’t imagine Donald Trump having any chance whatsoever to beat them. The poll numbers have told us in no uncertain terms that we really cannot have that kind of confidence if it’s once again Joe Biden going up against the former President.

As for how the rest of the Democratic Party’s elite, I would be surprised if they’re feeling very confident in the Buttigieg or Harris era they envisioned moving forward. As much as they might hate to admit it, it doesn’t look as if they’re going to be the face of the party once they’ve moved on from Biden. If there really is a lack of confidence in Biden which seems fairly clear, why not make a few phone calls and at least encourage Whitmer to get her name out there, run some polls, and see where things lie?

No one wants to see a Trump versus Biden rematch.

No one.

We deserve better, and we deserve a campaign where the politician is at least trying, and we have faith in their physical and mental abilities to get through an election cycle. Personally, I just can’t shake the feeling that Biden making the decision to run again is a massive mistake that could come back to haunt the Democratic Party. Not that they wouldn’t deserve it of course, but the American people deserve to have better options.
