Lessons on living well, from Madrid, Spain

Going out to socialise in London, it was unfortunately a common occurrence to see people fighting on the street or in pubs or nightclubs during nights out. I would even go as far as to say that this happened pretty much every time I went out in the centre of London. It was usually between two men, for no reason except accidentally spilling somebody’s drink or looking at another guy in the wrong way. There was a constant backdrop of aggression, day and night. I have never seen this happen here. Drinking is a social thing. People don’t get drunk to the point of being unable to walk straight, or talk coherently. What I see mostly is a very healthy attitude to drinking alcohol. It is an accompaniment to conversation with friends, family or colleagues, taken with some delicious food. Getting drunk is never the aim of a night out.
