Unlearning My White Privilege Pt. 2 — “I want them to think I’m not ugly.”

As part of my ongoing learning experience I watched another fantastic documentary the other day. Where the documentarian allowed the students she interviewed to ask her and the crew questions before she asked them anything.

It was quite telling and like the two “research experiments” that I’d seen video of several weeks earlier, it reminded me yet again of how far we have NOT come in the years since slavery. Seeing the results with my own eyes then was painful, especially as a mother myself. Seeing these two beautiful, smart Black girls, being interviewed by the documentarian and the emotion hidden in their eyes almost brought me to tears again.
