Is language innate?

We could say that language is what makes us human. It’s a part of who we are. In almost all situations, with very, very few exceptions, humans end up acquiring language. So, does that mean that language is innate? Are we inherently programmed for language? Do we have a language gene? How do we acquire language with such ease as a child?

These questions have been circling Linguistics for a very long time. We don’t know all the answers. But I’ll introduce to a few of the arguments and schools of thought that begin to explain why and how humans acquire language. There is a lot that I could write about here, but I’m going to keep it short.
