The Lachine Canal along the south side of Montreal Island was an industrial waterway from 1825 to 1970 and has been renewed over the past 30 years to become a unique residential part of the city. The canal area itself is an interesting place to visit, and a walk along it gives views of some of Montreal’s architecture.
The views into the centre of the city are mostly the taller buildings from this distance (and on this day, a bit hazy from the wildfire smoke). Older architecture can be seen walking through Old Montreal.
