Why Are White People Trying to Tell Black People What King Fought For

There are some White people who want to control the narrative about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., not just on the federal holiday celebrating his life, but throughout the year. For instance, Texas Governor Gregg Abbott commented, "Today," we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.," mentioning his "vision of liberty and opportunity." However, this is the same man who used his authority to remove any mention of the late civil rights leader from the required curriculum. That same bill also removed any description of "white supremacy and the Ku Klux Klan" as "morally wrong." So, let me get this right: we're supposed to believe that the Texas governor cares about honoring King's legacy when he doesn't want children to learn about his life.
