Thailand Travel Diary | 02: The Commute to Khaosan Road

<p>The first thing I notice is the flowerpots on the freeway. Pink and orange bougainvillaea flowers. The landscape rushes past in olive green and gray, and brown. We approach the city and pass many &ldquo;Long Live the King&rdquo; billboards with ornate gold frames.</p> <p>Two school girls on the train wear black uniforms &mdash; pleated skirts and white shirts with silver-buckle belts and fresh nail art. Their long hair hangs loose. One stares out the window while the other texts on her sky-blue phone.</p> <p>We disembark with no idea how to get to Kao San Road &mdash; Thailand&rsquo;s Yellow Brick Road for backpackers.
