Iam one of the 32 million people in the United States who deal with food allergies. For a long time, I didn’t even know I had food allergies — I just thought it was normal to feel a little crummy after eating. It wasn’t until I was in my 30’s that I figured it out after I had a severe allergic reaction out of nowhere to almonds.
Traveling with food allergies is really hit or miss, and finding safe places to eat can range from being an annoying experience to a downright frightening one. Finding allergy-friendly places in the Keys kind of sucked, but thankfully it wasn’t all bad and I did get to have some delicious seafood and signature key lime pie. Before I started out on my trip, I called scores of restaurants throughout Miami, Key Largo, Key West, and Islamorada. Here’s what I found:
