Hiking Mt. Nanhu 南湖大山 — Glacier cirque and juniper forests

Taiwan offers an amazing lifestyle when it comes to outdoor. It’s a small island with everything in your proximity. From hiking, rock climbing to free diving and kayaking, Taiwan has so much more to offer than night markets and Jiufan. Despite all those options, not until I moved out of Taiwan did I realize what I’ve missed. Growing up, Taiwanese education never encouraged kids to venture out to the nature despite it being right in front of the doorsteps. Even my parents used to freak out when I went on a small hike next to their place.

Taiwan’s mountains are unique in a way that they are steep and rainy. Mt.Nanhu is no exception. With a 3742 meter peak, Mt.Nanhu is the fifth highest mountain in Taiwan and the highest peak in Taroko National Park. Historically, the mountain range is part of the traditional territory for Atayal tribe, one of the Taiwanese aboriginal tribes. Due to its height and glacier cirque, Mt.Nanhu is dubbed as the most majestic mountain in Taiwan.

Visit Now
