Autism and Mental Health — The Invisible Epidemic

When astronauts go into space, they need to wear special suits to provide them with air, and to protect them from cold and radiation. When divers go deep in the ocean, they need special equipment to allow them to breath and to protect them from the pressure and temperature.

In both these cases, nobody suggests that there is anything implicitly wrong with the environment they are exploring, or with those that need the protection of their suits. The issue is that there is a mismatch between the two. Human beings are not naturally designed and equipped to live in space or deep underwater, so adjustments must be made for us to function in these places.
