The Radical Origins of International Women’s Day
<p>International Women’s Day was adopted as an official holiday by the UN in 1975. <strong>Better late than never? No. I don’t think that phrase applies here.</strong></p>
<p>It might be more apt to say, that by 1975 the day of women’s liberation struggle had been sufficiently stripped from its context.</p>
<p>It was seemingly possible to harmlessly institutionalize it as a celebration of positive rights granted to women by liberal governments around the world while demanding adjustments within that framework.</p>
