What The Little Mermaid Taught Me About International Travel

I’m a grumpy tourist. I try to avoid the usual tourist haunts because well… everybody goes there and I don’t like crowds. I grit my teeth and go anyway because they’re important landmarks. Gaudi’s famous cathedral in Barcelona, La Sagrada Familia? The line-ups stretched around the block, it took hours to get in and I felt conspicuous crowding out the residents in that tiny neighbourhood.

Standing up outside the Vatican to see a few doodles on the ceiling? Been there, done that.

The worst was Pompeii. We were literally herded through the ruins like sheep despite our guide’s heroic attempts to navigate the traffic jam. So, you can imagine my reluctance at being dragged off to see that cultural icon, Copenhagen’s Little Mermaid.

Visit Now
