You So Black: The Internalized Hatred of My Students

<p>Although it has died down a bit in recent months, the fear of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.edweek.org/leadership/what-is-critical-race-theory-and-why-is-it-under-attack/2021/05" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Critical Race Theory</a>&nbsp;has impacted the curriculum of many schools. I&rsquo;ve received more than a few messages from angry parents if we read a book with a Black protagonist. The fear, supposedly, boils down to the belief White children will hate themselves if they learn about history through a minority lens.</p> <p>I would never teach in a way that would leave children feeling bad about themselves.
